If 13-year-old Izabel Laxamana had anything to be proud about, it is her long, black, flowing hair. For it to be taken away from her must have been a large impact on her—as it became the reason for her to take her own life.

Her father allegedly cut all her hair and uploaded the video after he recorded everything. Izabel had an indefinite misbehavior which caused her father to publicly shame her as a form of punishment.

In the video, her dad says, “The consequences of getting messed up, man, you lost all that beautiful hair. Was it worth it?”

“No,” she replies
“How many times did I warn you?” He asks.
“A lot,” Izabel is barely heard answering.

Though it is still uncertain if the video caused Izabel to take her own life, many believe that it was in fact the reason why Izzy took her own life.  The 13-year-old girl from Tacoma, Washington died by suicide after jumping off a highway overpass on a Friday, May 29. She was taken to a Seattle hospital, where she died the following Saturday.

Public shaming may be a form of “discipline” for parents, but may be different for their children. It is in fact a form of abuse and bullying. Parents can discipline their children in many other ways without physically, psychologically, and emotionally hurting them.  Beating, yelling, swearing, and humiliating them in hopes of it ”finally getting through to them” will do the exact opposite.
