Parents urge police to find teen son's attackers
SAN JOSE, California – The parents of a 17-year-old boy who was
attacked by two individuals in a parking lot near a mall is a typical
teenager.
Christian Rasner's parents, Greg and Maria, said he did not deserve a senseless attack.
His mother recounted their last meeting at home on Wednesday.
"Sumasayaw siya sa music niya tapos kinain niya yung dala kong
leftover na pagkain. Hinalikan niya ako, niyakap ako ng anak ko. Sabi
ko, 'Saan ka pupunta?' Sabi niya 'Valley Fair Mall, Ma, and I love you'.
Yun yung last na kita ko sa anak ko," said Maria.
She added that she misses her son and that life is no longer normal for them.
"Nandito ako sa ospital naghihintay na magising ang anak ko. Hindi ko
alam kung makikilala pa niya kami dahil surgery sa brain yung ginawa sa
kanya," she said.
Doctors rushed Rasner into emergency surgery following the attack
last Wednesday. Since then, the teenager showed signs of responsiveness
but doctors decided to put him in an induced coma to help the healing
process.
"They’re trying to give his brain a rest. With a brain injury like
this he just needs to take a time out on thinking and having his brain
do things," his father said.
Rasner's parents have learned that their son suffered at least two strikes to the face before he hit the ground.
"We’ve now learned the force of the blows were so horrific that he
actually has fractures in his eye sockets. That knocked him out. He fell
on the pavement really hard and actually broke the back of his head and
that’s where the bleeding started and that’s where some of the real
damage has been caused," Greg explained.
The San Jose Police Department's Gang Investigations Unit met
recently with the Ransers to determine any possible motives behind the
attack.
Rasner's father is continuing to urge the police to release the
closed-circuit footage of the individuals to the public in order to find
his son's attackers.
"They’re trying to identify the two individuals. I know they called
one of the witnesses, one of my son’s friends who was at the scene, and
they’re trying to meet tomorrow. They are doing an investigation
although it seems it’s starting today and my son’s injury was Wednesday
night so I’m a little curious on the four, five [days] delay," Greg
said.
Rasner's father appeals to the public that if they have any
information regarding the identities of the two assailants to please
come forward.
"These people need to be behind bars and serve their punishment for
what they’ve done. It’s attempted murder in my view," Greg said.
A GoFundMe account has been created to help pay for the medical bills. —
