Even without Kia coach and Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao, the
matchup between the Kia Sorento and the GlobalPort Batang Pier on
Tuesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum was full of action.
Tempers flared in the highly-physical contest, with a fight threatening to break out before cooler heads prevailed.
Kia forward Chad Alonzo and GlobalPort rookie Anthony Semerad got
tangled up with 48.6 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The two
wrestled on the ground for a while exchanging blows before teammates
were able to separate them.
The two players got off easy, getting called for double technical fouls and escaping ejection.
The temperature went up once more in the fourth period, and it was the
turn of GlobalPort's Jewel Ponferrada and Kia's Riel Cervantes to tussle
with 11:13 left in the game.
Both men were also assessed technical fouls.
