Diver Finds $1 Million Worth Of Gold Coins Off Florida Coast

Most amateur and even professional treasure hunters today don’t really expect to find anything of serious value. May be some silver or perhaps if they’re really lucky even gold coins from back in the day when America used precious metals as currency. But one Florida treasure hunter literally hit the jackpot!

Eric Schmitt, a diver with Queens Jewels LLC, found that out Monday, when he discovered $1 million worth of gold coins and chains, according to the New York Daily News.
The treasure was originally from the 1715 Fleet, a ship that shipwrecked off the Florida coast on July 31, 1715.
Since the Spanish ship was discovered about 50 years ago, explorers have found over $50 million worth of goods on the fleet. The diver collected about 51 coins and 40 feet of gold chains on this discovery alone.
Queens Jewels owner Brent Brisben said in the article that he believes there is still $400 million worth of treasure located in the ship.
